Who are we?
This is our third year here at WGHS. Photography club gives students a scientific and artistic understanding of film photography.
The club itself is broken down into three club levels. All students begin at the baseline level also known as the "peasant" level. During this time they will build their own camera obscure to take and develop inverted photographs. They will gain the knowledge of how basic cameras work, how to mix photographic chemicals, and develop photosensitive paper. After becoming masters of the basics they will move up to the second level. This level can take one to two years to complete depending on the student.
The second level also known as the “elite” level is where students will move on to 35mm cameras. They will mix more chemicals, develop film, work with enlargers, master the use of a camera's manual settings, as well as the f/stop to shutter speed ratio. This level can take up to one to two years to complete.
The third level also known as the “master” level is when the student has a good working knowledge of film photography and begins working on more creative and expressive projects that involve high level darkroom manipulation. It is possible that some students will not reach this level, however, as the foundation are taught in the first two this can be done independently on the students own.
